You've heard
"save the bees"
BUT WHAT IF THE BEESÂ
Are Saving Us?
Â
In August 2019, my grandmother died at 103
In my grief, I went for a stroll in my neighborhood and passed a hollow tree surrounded by honeybees. I looked up. The bees were coming and going from a jagged hole high up in the tree. Like a classic Winnie the Pooh scene, I had stumbled upon a wild hive of honeybees!
The bees not only soothed my grief and gave me a sense of connection to my grandmother from beyond, they also spoke to me directly. "Bring together the bee people!" they said to me, "Help people know that we don't just build hives, we build communities."
I couldn't have imagined what the bees had in store for me
Not a beekeeper myself, I nonetheless knew I had to gather the bee people! I knew how to host a virtual symposium so, seven months later, in March of 2020, as the whole world was shutting down amidst the mysterious onslaught of COVID-19, the bees held nearly 200 humans together in a magical, honey-filled, protective hive of healing. They took us on an unforgettable journey. We recorded the journey, and you can access it now.Â
